HOW MUCH OLIVE OIL TO DRINK FOR GOOD HEALTH?

How Much Olive Oil to Drink for Good Health?
Last Updated: Aug 16, 2013 | By Heather Hitchcock

Olive oil has recently become a popular alternative to unhealthy saturated fats for its heart-healthy benefits.

Olive oil is a monounsaturated fat that can help reduce bad cholesterol levels in your blood and lower your risk of heart disease and stroke, according to the American Heart Association. Replacing unhealthy saturated fats in your diet with olive oil can promote good health.

Evidence
Limited scientific evidence suggests that eating about 2 tbsp., or 23 g, of olive oil daily may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease due to the monounsaturated fat in olive oil, according the Food and Drug Administration.

Health benefits are achieved by replacing unhealthy saturated fats such as lard, butter, margarine and other animal fats or trans fats with olive oil. A serving size of olive oil is 1 tbsp. and contains 120 calories, 13.5 g of total fat and about 10 g of monounsaturated fat.

Types

Monounsaturated fats are essential in providing the body with essential nutrients for developing and maintaining cellular function.

Although all types of olive oil contain monounsaturated fat, extra-virgin and virgin olive oils are the least processed forms and contain the highest levels of polyphenols, a powerful antioxidant that also can promote heart health.

Considerations

Although consuming olive oil can reduce the risk of developing heart disease, too much olive oil can contribute to unwanted weight gain. Fat in general contains more calories per gram than carbohydrates or protein sources, regardless of whether it is healthy monounsaturated or polyunsaturated fats or unhealthy saturated or trans fats.

Consume between 20 and 35 percent of your total daily caloric intake from healthy fat sources, advises the U.S. Department of Agriculture. For a 2,000-calorie-a-day diet, that would be between 44 and 78 g of fat a day.

PALESTINE ORGANIC EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL SOAP

Olive Oil Soap Benefits
Last Updated: Jan 29, 2014 | By Andrea Cespedes

Olive oil is a great component in a heart-healthy salad dressing, but its benefits don't end there. Since ancient times, people have taken advantage of the skin-softening benefits of this miracle oil. When blended with lye to make a soap, olive oil contributes to smoother, more elastic skin.

Hyper Moisturizing
Olive oil soap cleans your skin without stripping away the natural oils -- so you don't end up dry and flaky after it's use. Olive oil also allows the skin to sweat and shed cells naturally; commercial soaps that contain synthetic cleaners and fragrances can block your pores and cause irritation. Glycerin, a byproduct of the soap-making process, is retained in most natural olive oil soaps. Glycerin is highly moisturizing -- it actually absorbs water from the air. Commercial soap producers usually remove the glycerin from their products to use for other purposes.

Few Reactions
Olive oil soap is hypoallergenic, so you are less likely to experience an allergic reaction when using it. A 2008 publication of "Pediatric Dermatology" found that olive oil was a suitable ingredient in creams used on pre-term infants. If it's safe for the skin of these newborns, it is likely to be gentle on your sensitive skin. Most olive oil soap contains only natural ingredients, as opposed to many other soaps that contain sodium laurel sulfate, a known skin irritant and potential toxin.

Antioxidant Rich
You encounter free radicals every day as you expose yourself to food, pollution, pesticides and chemical beauty products. These free radicals damage cells, potentially causing disease and accelerating aging. Olive oil is a natural source of the antioxidants vitamins E and A, which fight free radicals -- and the benefits are there regardless of whether the oil is ingested or rubbed into the skin in the form of soap. Olive oil also contains oleocanthal, a compound touted for its anti-inflammatory benefits. Inflammation in the body can compromise your immune system and put you at risk for illness and disease, including chronic skin rashes, heart disease and digestive problems.

Lightly Scented and Vegan
Olive oil soaps offer a pleasant, fruity aroma, rather than an overtly perfumed scent that can irritate sensitive noses. Many commercial soaps are made with animal fats, rather than plant oils. Olive oil soap uses plant products, making it appropriate for people who wish to avoid using animal products

8 WAYS TO USE EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL FOR BEAUTY

When I do grocery shopping, I also do my beauty shopping at the same time, because plenty of natural products from a supermarket can be used for our beauty routine.
One of my favorite products is extra virgin olive oil (when I mention the ‘olive oil’ term in this article – I refer to the extra virgin olive oil).
Olive oil is a very popular product that people use for centuries and nowadays, it still goes strong and is widely used in cosmetic industry.
Olive oil is very rich in vitamins, minerals and natural fatty acids. It’s also convenient for a sensitive skin. Olive oil is a powerful ingredient of anti aging skin care products; rich in antioxidants, it prevents skin aging, the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, it also nourishes, rejuvenates and protects the skin.
Rich in vitamin E and A, olive oil helps prolong youth, hydrates the skin, maintains its elasticity and softness. Also, olive oil helps skin cells to regenerate. The list of olive oil benefits can go on and on, but let’s talk about practical things: how can you use olive oil for beauty?
1) Olive oil bath
Sophia Loren, gorgeous Italian actress, once shared her beauty secret – she loves taking olive oil baths.
To prepare the olive oil bath, just add 5 table spoons of extra virgin olive oil into your bathtub and you are done! (You can add more if you like). This simple, yet amazing beauty secret can make your skin soft and very smooth.
Here is another variation the olive oil beauty bath: massage your body with the extra virgin olive oil before hopping into your bathtub, after you finish taking your bath, pat your skin dry and wipe away the excess oil; you won’t recognise your skin! It will be amazingly soft and smooth, like a baby skin.

2) Olive oil body lotion
Olive oil is my favourite body lotion! (I don’t buy body lotions and body creams any more, because I found the one that is very efficient and all natural). I love to apply olive oil all over my body while in the shower (right after I used the shower gel); after the olive oil body lotion my skin feels baby soft and very smooth! This simple beauty secret is a very quick and easy way to make your skin look and feel healthy and tender to touch.
3) Olive oil makeup remover
I love using olive oil as my makeup remover in the evening. It gently removes makeup and nourishes the skin at the same time. Apply a little bit of olive oil on a cotton pad (or on a wet cotton pad) and gently wipe away all the makeup from your face. Rinse with warm, then cold water; cold water will stimulate the blood circulation and close pores.
You can also use olive oil as a gentle eye makeup remover; it will easily remove even the waterproof makeup.

4) How to strengthen nails with olive oil?
A warm olive oil bath for nails is an excellent way to strengthen them. It takes only 5 or 10 minutes. Just soak your nails in slightly warmed up olive oil (it shouldn't be too hot, just a room temperature). Do this treatment once of twice a week and enjoy strong, shiny and healthy nails!
5) Olive oil eye cream
Yes, you can use olive oil as an eye cream. It will nourish the tender skin around your eyes and soften fine lines. Gently dab some olive oil under your eyes before the bed time or in the morning. Keep your olive oil eye cream in the fridge and enjoy refreshing, vitamin filled beauty treatment.

6) Olive oil homemade face masks
One of my favorite homemade face masks with olive oil is this: mix one  egg yolk with one table spoon of olive oil (if you want, add a tea spoon of lemon juice, it will help whiten and brighten the skin, as lemon juice is rich in antioxidants and especially vitamin C). Apply this mixture on your clean face for 5 -10 minutes; rinse with warm, then cold water (cold water will help to close pores). This olive oil homemade face mask can be used for normal or dry skin types, it will nourish and soften your skin, adding a wonderful glow.
Here is a cleansing and refreshing olive oil face mask for normal skin type: mix 1 table spoon of white cosmetic clay with 1 table spoon of olive oil. Apply it on your face for 10-15 minutes; rinse with warm water.

7) Olive oil for hair
Olive oil hair treatment is quick and easy to make; it will take you only 15 minutes to do it.
Mix one egg yolk with 2 table spoons of olive oil and 1 tea spoon of lemon juice. Keep this mask on your hair for about 15 minutes, then shampoo and condition. Your hair will become shinier and softer.
Here is another olive oil hair treatment: it’s easy, just apply olive oil on your hair, let it sit on your locks for about one hour, then shampoo and condition your hair as usual (you might need to shampoo your hair two times to get rid of greasiness). This hair treatment will make your hair healthier and shinier.

8) Don’t forget to add olive oil in your food!

Olive oil will improve your skin, hair and nails condition, nourishing your body from within. Remember, beauty starts from within!
Olive oil is one of my favorite natural skin care products.

OLIVE OIL - PERFECT REMEDY FOR SKIN & HAIR PROBLEMS

By now, we all know that olive oil is really good for our health and has tons of benefits like lowering the levels of cholesterol and blood pressure, preventing strokes, improving the immune system, etc. But it also has various beauty benefits and this makes it one must-have ingredient in our homes.

Benefits for the skin

Dry skin – Olive oil is good for moisturising the skin. If you have dry skin, massage it well in your skin, not just face but the whole body and get a glow in no time. Areas like elbow and knee get too dry and massaging them with it will lock in the moisture for longer.

Here’s a pack you can make for your face:

Mix some honey and egg yolk in olive oil and blend them all together. Now apply it on your face and leave it for 10-15 minutes before you wash it off with lukewarm water. This will help get back the moisture in your skin and also get rid of the impurities. You could aslo try thesefruit face packs for dry skin

Oily skin – Olive oil works for oily skin as well due to its non-greasy nature. Since it does not stick, people with oily skin can also use it. They can avoid the face but massage their bodies with it and reap in its benefits. For face, you can try face packs made of multani mittti

Irritated skin – Olive oil has antioxidants and good fats which help get rid of the free radicals and also heal the skin. So if you have irritated skin or sunburnt skin then massage it on the affected area.
Stretch marks – Another major concern for both men and women are the ghastly stretch marks. By massaging this oil, you can improve the elasticity of the skin and its regenerative properties will help heal the affected skin. This will not let to the formation of new stretch marks and may also lighten the present ones slightly. You could even try other home remedies like lime juice to reduce stretch marks.

Other beauty problems – Trade your lip balm and under-eye cream for olive oil instead. This will get rid of chapped lips and reduce under-eye wrinkles. Apply a few drops of it overnight and see the difference in a few days. People who have extremely sensitive skin can also opt for this. Olive oil is also good for the nails, making them stronger and healthier. It is also a great solution for cracked heels.

Benefits for the hair

If you suffer from problems like dry, flaky scalp or dandruff, switching to olive oil is a good idea. Massage it with your fingertips in circular motion and then on the tips to get shiner hair. It is very light and does not make your hair too greasy. Applying it weekly once and then washing your hair after 30 minutes of application will give you good results.

People who have frizzy hair or split ends can massage their locks with lightly warmed olive oil. Remember, don’t heat the oil too much as olive oil loses its properties at high temperatures. One can even use it in combination with egg to add volume and shine to their mane. Also read home remedies for all your hair problems

There are various varieties of olive oil available but extra virgin olive oil is the finest one and will have the most number of beneficial properties than the other types. So buy a bottle of olive oil the next time you go to the supermarket and massage your way to beautiful skin.

OTHER USES FOR OLIVE OIL

  • 1

Use as hair conditioner

Is your hair as dry and brittle as sagebrush in the desert? Put the moisture back into it by heating 1/2 cup olive oil (don’t boil it), and then liberally applying it to your hair. Cover your hair with a plastic grocery bag, then wrap it in a towel. Let it set for 45 minutes, then shampoo and thoroughly rinse.

2

Clear up acne

Okay, the notion of applying oil to your face to treat acne does sound a bit wacky. Still, many folks swear this works: Make a paste by mixing 4 tablespoons salt with 3 tablespoons olive oil. Pour the mixture onto your hands and fingers and work it around your face. Leave it on for a minute or two, then rinse it off with warm, soapy water. Apply daily for one week, then cut back to two or three times weekly. You should see a noticeable improvement in your condition. (The principle is that the salt cleanses the pores by exfoliation, while the olive oil restores the skin’s natural moisture.)

  • 3

Substitute for shaving cream

If you run out of shaving cream, don’t waste your time trying to make do with soap—it could be rough on your skin. Olive oil, on the other hand, is a dandy substitute for shaving cream. It not only makes it easier for the blade to glide over your face or legs, but it will moisturize your skin as well. In fact, after trying this, you may swear off shaving cream altogether.

  • 4

Clean your greasy hands

To remove car grease or paint from your hands, pour 1 teaspoon olive oil and 1 teaspoon salt or sugar into your palms. Vigorously rub the mixture into your hands and between your fingers for several minutes; then wash it off with soap and water. Not only will your hands be cleaner, they’ll be softer as well.

  • 5

Remove paint from hair

Did you get almost as much paint in your hair as you did on the walls in your last paint job? You can easily remove that undesirable tint by moistening a cotton ball with some olive oil and gently rubbing it into your hair. The same approach is also effective for removing mascara—just be sure to wipe your eyes with a tissue when done.
